AnatomyEdit

Elants generally have grey exoskeletons, though variations exist.  It has six legs, like all insects, and multifaceted eyes.  Instead of mandibles, the elant has a tiny, prehensile appendage above its mouth.  This appendage is usually referred to as the "trunk".  It has tiny bumps along the bottom surface that are akin to tastebuds in mammals.  The trunk is capable of wrapping around or adhering to objects and lifting them either to the elant's mouth or to its back.

The back of an elant is flat and mildly adhesive.  The central pair of legs are reinforced to support added weight when the elant is carrying a load.  Elants are capable of carrying a load that is several thousand times their own weight.  No specimen larger than one one-hundreth of an inch has been observed.

The head of the elant bears a pair of diaphonous membranes resembling the wings of most flying insects, rather than antennae.  These membranes, however, look vaguely like large ears.  The "ears" of the elant are capable of not only true hearing, but of sensing even the slightest shifts in the air currents.  The ears also bear the olfactory sense nodes.
